The purpose of this paper is to explain how the use of a genogram and ecomap can help identify strengths and stressors within a family unit. When used together they act as a tool to help providers and nurses formulate a plan of therapeutic care for families with chronic illness or overwhelming stressors that affect the behaviors of the family as a whole. These tools can be used as visual aids to help the family understand what stressors are significant and where intervention needs to occur.
